Santa's Contrail (Comet Lovejoy 23 December 2011)

Got a good look at Lovejoy from our paddock 250Km NE of Melbourne this morning. Got the whole family up at 4.30 am and 15yo daughter Grace (now taking interest after her younger sister Lara won a prize with her lunar eclipse series earlier in 2011) took a nice pic using mum's DSLR (50mm lens) and my bulb/shutter release. She bracketed a few exposures and 30sec looks best.

About Me

My photo
Building a radio astronomy facility as we rehab a 40acre block with a shearing shed on it. First, some baby steps: 1. I do not know much about EM radiation 2. how can radio waves from space be ‘seen” 3. how do antennas work? 4. there is a Mobile Phone Tower only 700 metres away. but hey, learning all that shit could be a heap of fun. Helpful advice accepted.
